300 and Gladiator are also favourites of mine, and I agree with Dape on Clash of the Titans.. my main motivation for watching that was Liam Neeson! D:

Of the movies mentioned, Prometheus, Twilight ( sorry D: ), The Hobbit and Snow White seem most interesting to me. The Avengers might be nice, but by now my desire for superhero movies has long since been oversaturated, especially with third-rate, unimaginative and formulaic rubbish like Green Lantern littering the playing field.

As for Tim Burton, couldn't agree more. There's a certain staleness to his projects by now that makes me feel quite jarred whenever I hear of a new project starring his girlfriend, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Johnny Depp. Urgh! Some innovation would be nice!

Mother's Day
ab0eb.jpg
Plot Summary: In this highly-anticipated psychological horror thriller from renowned director Darren Lynn Bousman and producer Brett Ratner, two mothers (Rebecca De Mornay and Jaime King) will give the holiday terrifying new meaning as they battle to protect what is dearest to them.
After a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers head for home, hoping their "Mother" (Rebecca De Mornay) can provide them with a getaway. The youngest brother, "Johnny" (Matt O'Leary), has been shot and their back-stabbing former partner has gotten away with all the cash.
But when the brothers get home, they find that all their stuff is gone and Mother is nowhere to be found: she lost the house months ago in a foreclosure. The new owners, "Beth" and "Daniel Sohapi" (Jaime King and Frank Grillo) and their guests, gathered for an ill-timed birthday party, become the brothers' unwitting hostages.
Not long after, Mother arrives, along with the boys' sister Lydia (Deborah Ann Woll), and it soon becomes clear that Mother will do absolutely anything to protect her children. In one terrifying evening, she brilliantly takes control of the situation and masterminds her sons' escape from the law.
Sides will be taken, secrets revealed, and sins punished as the hostages struggle to make it through the night alive.

As Vincent heads to the nightclub in the outskirts of Paris to trade the drugs for his son, he soon gets caught in an intense, claustrophobic cat-and-mouse game that quickly spirals into madness as the tables are constantly turned multiple times throughout the evening. Wrath of the Titans
V4RHq.jpg
Plot Summary: A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) --the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)--is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Plot Summary: In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet--or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

I have cried at the end of Gladiator all 5 times I've seen it. Prometheus looks amazing, even if you're not a fan of the Alien(s) movies. I'm pretty stoked for both the Avengers and The Hobbit equally.

Haven't there always been a lot of fantasy movies =/ ?
It was more than a decade ago that the first LotR and Harry Potter movie was released and there's been a huge interest in both all the way up until now, especially with HP as the latest movie is still kinda new. And even before that there were some pretty huge movies like the Highlander movies or the Neverending Story that probably sparked an interest in the genre which in turn probably also spawned a lot of crappy fantasy films at the time.
