The Movie Anticipation Thread in TV & Movies

Well that's true, but the focus seems to have moved on to actually fairytales (mostly classic fairytales) instead of other kinds of fantasy =O LotR and Harry Potter are kinda different from fairytales with their darker fantasy theme xd

Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale
9WGzA.jpg
Plot Summary: Wei Te-sheng's epic film "Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale" reclaims an extraordinary episode from 20th-century history, which is little known, even in Taiwan. Between 1895 and 1945, the island was a Japanese colony inhabited not only by the majority (Han Chinese Immigrants) but also by the remnants of the aboriginal tribes who first settled the mountainous land. In 1930 Mouna Rudo, the leader of the Seediq tribe settled on and around Mount Chilai, forged a coalition with other Seediq tribal leaders and plotted a rebellion against their Japanese colonial masters. It was to begin at a sports day meeting where the assembled tribesmen were to attach and kill the Japanese officials and would then broaden to sieges on police stations and local government offices in the region. The initial uprising took the Japanese by surprise and was almost entirely successful. But the Japanese soon sent in their army to crush the rebellion, using aircraft and poison gas.

That Rise of the Guardians reminds me of Terry Pratchett's Hogfather, which was excellent. The idea that these mythical beings are greater than their myths interests me a lot.

I thought the animation looked solid, and I liked it wasnt gag after gag after gag after gag like most of these seasonal animated things are. It actually looks pretty mature, which I think is getting pretty rare in animation these days. I will definitely keep my eye on it.

y3pvH.jpg
Plot Summary: In "The Perfect Family," suburban mother and devout Catholic Eileen Cleary (Kathleen Turner) has always kept up appearances. When she runs for the Catholic Woman of the Year title at her local parish—an award she has coveted for years—her final test is introducing her family to the board for the seal of approval. Now she must finally face the nonconformist family she has been glossing over for years. And yea, kenshin may be good, though im hesitant. Im not a big fan of the japanese movie industry outside of kaiju films. Especially when it comes to anime adaptations, they really drop the ball translating things from 2D to 3D. Not that western media dosent do that as well all the time, but i've seen way more decent book or comic book adaptations come out of the west.
